Ruth found a gift of writing poetry during a career-break when she had more time to reflect on the things that interested and motivated her life and the lives of others. She writes a wide range of poetry both in rhyme and free verse, both for grown-ups and children. All of it is written from a Christian world view and her general poems are about people, places, experiences, and the natural world. Her Christian poems are about aspects of faith and the Christian life but also re-writing and reflecting on Bible passages and themes.
As she wrote, she found she could express her faith through words and music, writing many hymns, meditations and children's songs that explored aspects of the Christian faith. She began using them in her local church and making them available to others. At this stage her husband John, a tenor soloist and church musician, joined in her creativity by adding simple piano arrangements to the music, making the songs accessible and easy to play. |
